About the show
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s STARLIGHT EXPRESS is now playing in the specially designed Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. Audiences will be immersed inside a world of speed, song and storytelling as an incredible cast of 40 whizz around and above, performing some of musical theatre’s most beloved songs, including AC/DC, Make Up My Heart, Light at the End of the Tunnel and the iconic Starlight Express.
As a child’s train set magically comes to life and the engines race to become the fastest in the world, Rusty the steam train has little hope of winning until he is inspired by the legend of the ‘Starlight Express’.
Seen around the world by over 20 million people, STARLIGHT EXPRESS is an electrifying experience for all ages.
STARLIGHT EXPRESS has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, is directed by Luke Sheppard (&Juliet, The Little Big Things), with set designer Tim Hatley (Back to the Future), costume designer Gabriella Slade (Six), lighting designer Howard Hudson (&Juliet), sound designer Gareth Owen (MJ the Musical), video designer Andrzej Goulding (Life of Pi), new orchestrations by Matthew Brind with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Musical Supervision by Matthew Brind & David Wilson, Musical Direction by Laura Bangay and Casting by Pearson Casting.
With thrilling new choreography by Ashley Nottingham, STARLIGHT EXPRESS also sees the return of Arlene Phillips as creative dramaturg.
The Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre is a state-of-the-art cultural destination only 12 minutes from Baker Street and a short 5-minute walk from the Wembley Park Tube.

Educational Workshops
Theatre Workout's official workshops for STARLIGHT EXPRESS are tailored to your group's age and ability and your learning objectives for them. We aim to challenge and inspire students through character-led activities, helping students experience this great story through theatre.
Drama Workshops
With a focus on the story of Starlight Express, this workshop will explore Rusty’s place in the modern world, about change, adapting to new environments, friendship, and confidence.
Students would explore the concept of being individual, of the differences between us, and how we can compete or collaborate, showcasing our individual qualities and collective strengths.
We can explore key characters and the varying physicality used to define the steam, diesel and electric generations, before looking at various storytelling techniques through improvisation and group activities, devising their own versions of key scenes.
For older groups, the workshop may include scene studies, looking at songs from the show as speeches, connecting with the character’s emotions, and their individual journey in the show.
Musical Theatre Workshops
All-round musical theatre workshops will cover aspects of acting, singing, and dance (minus the roller skates), working on key songs from a show, such as I Am Me, and Pumping Iron. They build confidence in a group, and are tailored to meet their learning objectives, and to the age of the students taking part.
