Theatre Workout has been working closely with it's colleagues within the Drama & Theatre Education Alliance (DTEA) over recent months to develop a National Plan for Drama & Theatre Education (NPDTE). We are delighted to share our results.

The NPDTE, inspired by the National Plan for Music Education, has been developed in consultation with DTEA membership and the wider Drama & Theatre Education community, pulling together research and evidence from multiple sources, with the aim or creating a clear path to the inclusion of Drama and Theatre throughout the education system.

With a focus on England (as Welsh and Scottish education is a devolved matter), the plan highlights the benefits to the child, to schools, communities, and the wider socio-economic and cultural landscape of the UK.

As the DTEA seeks to garner support from the education, theatre, and drama communities, along with local and national government and school leadership, we invite you to review the plan and share with your network, school leadership and local MP.

While the DTEA recognises that there is a long way to go, it identifies the issues around 'what' we want, and 'why' it is important.

We now aim to engage with government to take the plan to the next stage, to work out 'how' it can be implemented.

About the DTEA

The DTEA was founded in 2020, uniting 14 national associations working in drama and theatre for, with, and by children and young people. It has since grown to include over 20 national associations, networks and leading organisations. More information can be found at www.dtealliance.co.uk.
