Group Travel Cards Continue

The best way to get around London is by public transport, and London has one of the best transport systems in the world, offering extensive services including underground, trains, busses, trams and the Docklands Light Railway.

Earlier this year, TFL announced they were phasing out paper tickets as part of a national plan for rail travel, which has meant the popular Group Travel Cards were unavailable from January 2024. While London schools can get free travel for trips, schools from across the UK, or from around the world need travelcards to access the network, and there was no viable alternative offered.

Theatre Workout has been lobbying TFL to overturn this decision, and we are delighted to announce that we have been successful! We learned today that paper group travelcards will continue as an exception to the phasing out of paper tickets, so we can now include travelcards on your 2024 trips to London!

TFL said:

After close collaboration with the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), we have now been able to find a solution which allows the Day Travelcard to continue to be accepted on TfL services, while still meeting the terms of our funding agreement with Government. This means Day Travelcards can continue to be bought by customers as part of their train tickets to London.

This agreement follows a long period of negotiation by RDG representing train operators, TfL and the Department for Transport to find a solution which secures the future of the tickets while at the same time enabling us to meet our budget commitments.

Travelling by London's TFL network offers an affordable, efficient, and greener alternative to coach travel. Anyone who's travelled across London by road knows how busy it can be, and how long it can take with only the slightest bit of congestion from roadworks or accidents. It is by far the best way to get around London, and a brilliant way to enhance your London experience!
