Educational Workshops:

Theatre Workout started working with Wicked in 2008. While our workshops were developed in consultation with the show's producers, they are not official workshops for the show.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre workshops are an obvious option for many groups, and this session will explore general musical theatre technique, focusing on the concept of 'Acting Through Song', while also exploring themes, characters and stories from the show. Students will work with songs and scenes from the show, accompanied either by piano, backing tracks or cast recordings, performing a song at the end of the workshop as a group. This is an ideal workshop option for more experienced drama groups.

Advanced groups may also opt for a professional audition masterclass, in which a professional casting workshop is presented, teaching groups choreography and songs from the show in real-time, challenging them to perform to the best of their ability.

Workshops may include: What Is This Feeling? Popular and The Wizard And I

Music Workshops

Defying Gravity is on the music syllabus for some exam boards. Theatre Workout's Wicked Music Workshop, led by a Musical Director, breaks down, analyses, discusses, and re-constructs the music of Wicked, helping students understand it's orchestration, how it drives the characters and story of the show, and explores how it engages an audience on many levels.

Drama Workshop

With a focus on drama, this workshop is ideal for most student groups. Workshops may include acting, storytelling and devising exercises inspired by characters, stories and themes from the show, such as friendship, labels, racism and bullying.

In addition, students may explore devising techniques as they invent their own choreography in an ensemble performance of Dancing Through Life.

These workshops have been specially developed for adult social and corporate groups:
