Reopening of theatres

On Monday 22nd February 2021, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced a series of measures as part of the government's roadmap to the reopening of the UK economy.

There are several key dates planned five weeks apart. The most crucial for our sector are the reopening of schools on 8th March, and the reopening of the hospitality sector from 17th May, which will allow venues to accommodate guests indoors, including the reopening of theatres, restaurants and attractions.

These dates are not set in stone and will be determined by the success of the vaccination programme and the continued decline in cases and hospitalisations.

Theatres are now working to decide how they are going to reopen, when, and what restrictions they can work with. It is unlikely that all theatres will open their doors on 17th May, and the reality is that most will plan a phased reopening from early June 2021.

As a member of the London Tourism Co-operative, BETA, and other associations, we are working with the likes of SOLT, theatre producers and ticketing agents to support theatres and communicate to our clients what shows will be reopening, when, and what arrangements are in place for individuals and groups, which we will share in due course.
